Knightmare and Ray the Rat

Knightmare, who the heck is Knightmare!  Knightmare is a member of Rat's Pack.  I am also a member of Rat's Pack.  We are a group of photographers that work Miller Motorsports Parks.  On Saturday June 20 Larry (Knightmare) gave up his Nikon to drive his Mazda Miata in SCCA autocross at Miller.

My first shows shows Knightmare in his car and look at the three people beside the course.  The man in the middle is Ray the Rat.

Later.  Gotta go to bed.

Racing in the rain or hero to zero on first lap.

Turn two, first lap of the big iron race at Miller.  How in the heck all of the cars behind the Bimmer managed to avoid him I'll never know.  Oh yeh, it was raining at the start, then it got better then it got worse.  Great fun though.

More SCCA at Miller June 20-21, '09

Today a few more random photos that I took at Miller last weekend.  Yesterday I had two more 20 x 30 prints made, one of the start of Saturdays rain race for open wheel and sports racers and the start of the ALMS race this year.  I and most likely only I like them as they are.  The rain start is in a general sence the better of the two photos as everything is sharp and clear.  The ALMS is a totally different animal.  I was using my 500 mm Sigma lens and the light was really crappy and the cars were a long way off.  The track was giving off heat waves that distorted the image of the cars.  At the point the picture was taken the BMW had just collided with the Ferrari and turned it sideways one of the ALMS P1 cars had collected an orange cone and various body parts are flying in the air along with dirt and other debris.

I think it has an almost surreal or impressionist feel to it.  I like it, and that is all that really matters.

All of this has nothing really to do with todays posting, I'm just rambling before I have to get back to more yard work.

Formula (Club) Fords at Miller SCCA 06-20-2009

This is going to be short today.  I am doing a quick posting of 10 photos of some of the open wheel racecars that were at Miller last weekend.  I took most of this series on Saturday on the pre-grid for practice.
As I have to go to work again today in less than an hour I just do not have much time to do more.  Oh how I dislike that word.  I will write and post more photos of the SCCA race in the next few days.

Todays shots at Miller

Just a few random shots that I took at Miller today.  Motorcycles had the East Course and cars on the West Course.  I came across a couple of semi interesting cars and one motorcycle that I liked.

SCCA May 24, 2008

Today, about ten photos that I took at Miller during the SCCA Regional race last year (May 24,2008).  I guess that I am getting into the SCCA mind set as tomorrow I am again heading out to Miller for the SCCA Colorado Region Races.  Next week I will try and post some of those photos and hopefully some of them weill have been taken with the new lens.  The new lens is supposed to arrive tomorrow while I am at the track.  I'll use it on Sat. and Sun.

Canon XT update

The broken Canon XT sold on eBay for $159.15 + shipping.  I consier that that was the trade in for the Canon 10D that I recently bought on eBay, therefore the 10D only cost me $40.00.  I have ordered the Canon 100-400 mm L IS USM lens and it is due to arrive on Friday.  I threw my skinflint ways out the window and even paid an additional $5.25 to have it arrive in 4 days instead of sometime next week with the free shipping option.

This weekend at Miller is a SCCA regional race, Miller Park Racing Assoc. and the Utah region of the SCCA is also having an Autocross.  Nightmare (Larry of the Rat Pack) is entering his Miata in the Autocross.  I guess I will have to get a shot or two of him on the course.

I am really looking forward to using the new lens.  I paid more for the lens than both of my current camera bodies combined.  I do believe that the lens is more important than the body for taking good pictures.  I don't know if that will help me....but we'll see.

The Canon XT (broken)

Just a short note.  I checked eBay to see If I have received any more bids on the broken Canon XT.  The auction has about 19 hours to go and today the bidding jumped from $34.00 to $102.50.  Somebody must really want a broken Canon XT camera body.  This means that so far I will only have paid $95.00 for Canon 10D.

We are heading out shortly for Angie's house to have a hot dog dinner and then bring Lexi home for the weekend.

Later.

New Camera (used)

Today the camera body I bought on ebay came via UPS.  It is a Canon 10D.  I got it for less than 2 bills including shipping.  Silly dumb ol' me I just assumed that all of the lenses that I have for the XT and the 40D would fit on it.  No.  There apparently is a difference between the EF Canon lenses and the newer EF-S.  Luckily I have two lenses that fit the 10D.  A Canon camera that takes EF-S will accept EF lenses but an EF Canon camera will not take a EF-S lens.  I am looking now for another lens that is shorter in focal length. for the 10D.  It also turns out the the Quantrary flash unit that I had for the Canon XT works just great on the 10D but not on the 40D.  Now I have two Canon digital camera bodies, 4 lenses and two flash units.

So far the few test shots that I have done with the 10D are fine.  Oh ya, I have the old XT up for auction on eBay and it already had several bid and two days or so to go.  That should pay for another lens.
